Beautiful Beach-Inspired Bedrooms

Breezy Bedroom

A piece of salvaged crown molding serves as a shelf and holds a collection of sea coral above an understated metal bed.

Beach-Inspired Bunk Room

The bunk room is also home to this black cabinet, which houses nautical artifacts and aquatic-themed artwork. Old tennis rackets hang above art, reinforcing the room's sporty theme.

Versatile Guest Bedroom

Use extra-long twin beds and a neutral color palette like brown and white to make this guest bedroom suitable for all ages.

Shipwrecked Style

When decorating this Mexican hideaway, designer Myra Hoefer wanted the house to look like it had been abandoned years ago, and the sand and sea had swept over it. All of the items in the house would have been washed up from a shipwreck on the beach. "Spanish settlers would have brought these beds over with them," Hoefer says of this iron four-poster bed with an almost colonial look to it.

Coastal Inspiration

The coastal landscape inspires the decor in this Idea House guest suite. The floral print of the bed linens and the bamboo planking on the bed are subtle references to the coastal landscape.

Beach Suite

Natural materials such as matchstick blinds, bamboo drapery hardware, and a driftwood lamp lend rustic accents to the tailored furnishings.

Bend the Rules

In kid-friendly spaces, there's no such thing as pattern overload. Combine stripes, polka dots, and prints with chenilles and cottons for a lighthearted look. Pick a two-tone palette, such as green and blue, and use several shades of each hue.

Hanging Out

It’s exotic and functional, with fun written all over it!” says the interior designer of the second-floor guest room. Teak platforms suspended from heavy-gauge rope take center stage, while a punchy striped fabric on the wall and Roman shade creates a seamless backdrop. “I don’t use orange often,” the designer says. “But here it provides a surprising pop of color.” Engineered hardwood flooring echoes the rich graining of the bed platforms, and offers tropical-wood appeal at a fraction of the cost. It’s environmentally friendly, too!

Basic Beach Bunkroom

In this beachside bunkroom in South Carolina, a pop of solid color against the small-scale print anchors the space while still keeping the mood light and the look cohesive. The rug picks up on the other blues so that the patterns can coordinate, not clash.

Summertime Room

Lemonade colored walls in this child's room create a summery backdrop for the cool blue and green fabrics.

All About the View

To augment the Anglo-Caribbean design, the architect raised the porches and ceilings, adding the all-important transoms, so the residents would have a spectacular view of the ocean from the moment they stepped through the main entry doors.

Pink and Green Bedroom

Pink bed linens balance the rustic wood paneling in this Key West, Florida bedroom. Accents of lime green and turquoise play off of the lush tropical vegetation outside.

Boys' Bunk Room

Cantilevered frames and a compact design make these bunks a sculptural update on the classic. The lacquered wood finish makes them extra durable, too, to hold up under a stream of sleepover guests. Bedding with modified stripe motifs completes the picture of camp-style coastal quarters in this Malibu Beach, California, bunkroom.

Palm Haven

In the oceanside bedroom, a palm motif reigns. The accent crops up on neutral bedding, lamps, the rug, even on the finials on the canopy bed.

Seaside Sleep

Plantation shutters and an ornate chest-turned-window seat are classic West Indies refinement. A colorful, quilted bedspread and mosquito net canopy complete this elegant, tropical style.

Ocean View Oasis

This eco-friendly master bedroom in Pacific Palisades, California, eliminates all frills and leaves only function. A built-in unit serves as both a headboard and useful storage space. Simple bed linens echo the watery blue of the shore just outside.

Gothic by the Beach

Soft and hard elements combine in this St. Barts bedroom, defining the luxurious simplicity of West Indies style. The homeowners chose a restrained palette of black, white, yellow, and blue that rests against large white shuttered windows. A dramatic modern Gothic headboard stands out against the peaceful space.

Symmetrically Styled

Outfitted with twin beds, lamps, side tables, and folding benches, this guest bedroom uses traditional blues and whites to create a soothing coastal space. Chocolate brown cane-and-rattan headboards add a graphic, tropical touch.

Light and Bright

The wall behind the master bed is painted pale blue, and the same hue extends to the wall outside. White bed linens and a patch of plush shag carpet make this master bedroom luxurious but understated.

Reflections of the Sea

Strong greens, blues, and yellows reflect the palette of tropical gardens and the sunlit sea that's visible out every window.

Cozy Alcove

Prints of tankers, starfish, and a model sailboat add a nautical splash to this tailored area.

Beachy and Bright Bunkroom

Just a splash of the unexpected here and there – such as the hot pink bean bag chairs and bold lamps – is a great way to introduce some brightness in an all-white room.

Solar Flair

In this master bedroom, a tin palm basks in the sunlight.

Blue-and-White Master Bedroom

This master bedroom has an abundance of windows in order to take in coastal views. Large-scale print wallpaper and matching bedding gives the space a cozy feeling, while a woven rug and Roman shades balance the dramatic blue print.

Peaceful Pieces

A woven headboard paired with soft green-and-blue bed linens give this master bedroom in Santa Cruz, California, a laid-back, earthy feel.
